For my 28th birthday, I decided to have a bunch of people over and make some upscale small bites. I cheated a little and got some divine cheese souffles from Trader Joe’s to bulk up my menu (and to save me a little time and sweat in the kitchen!) but overall everything was from Thomas Keller’s Ad Hoc at Home (a really fabulous cookbook that combines Keller’s incredibly clean, fresh, haute cuisine style and translates it for the home cook through simple recipes) and my brain. I also offered a non-alcoholic option at the bar (a surprising first!), a raspberry Mule: ginger beer, lime juice, muddled raspberries. YUM.
I spent all day cooking in my little kitchen and by just before party time it was a disaster! I guess when I am not in someone else’s kitchen I don’t clean as I go along! Luckily my lovely husband pitched in and helped me bat cleanup before our guests arrived!
